Wage recommendations

Pursuant to the Federal Council's standard employment contract (SEC) for domestic workers, minimum wages are applicable for household helpers if they work an average of more than five hours per week for the same employer.

Minimum wages (gross), excluding additional payments for holidays and paid public holidays:

Per hour
a. Unskilled CHF 19.20
b. Unskilled household helper with at least four years of professional experience as a domestic worker CHF 21.10
c. Skilled household helper with a Swiss Federal Certificate of Competence as an expert in home economics or with completed basic vocational training of at least three years which is suitable for the domestic work to be performed. CHF 23.20
d. Skilled householder helper with a Swiss Federal Vocational Certificate as a home economics practitioner or with completed basic vocational training of at least two years which is suitable for the domestic work to be performed. CHF 21.10

The hourly wage must also be negotiated in each instance between both parties and depends on a variety of factors:

  • Tasks and responsibilities
  • Age
  • Qualifications and experience
  • Wage level in your area

Our wage recommendations are based on an average value for the whole of Switzerland. Please note that the wage level differs greatly between regions.

Unskilled household helper with at least four years of professional experience from CHF 25.–
Skilled household helper with certificate of competence from CHF 28.–
* Basic: four weeks of holiday
